I've found Maplin's stock control, staff and accuracy to be under-par, despite - like you - courting them and Tandy throughout my childhood. The great thing about the net is that smallfry like Bitsbox can get a look in. They have been really good every time I have used them, friendly and personal - and a reasonable £1.50 postage. Rapid are also good, although their delivery charges are only reasonable on large orders. Great round-up of suppliers, I agree with everything you’ve said. Price was reasonable, and their stock was large enough for my needs. Delivery came via Hong Kong, and took under a week. They have a *massive* catalogue. They're based in the US, but will ship to the UK for £12, or for free for orders over £50.
